Earlier this month, Community Care Corps announced that it has awarded $4 million in funding to 30 new grantees for the 2023-2025 grant cycle. This cohort of grantees will develop or enhance innovative local programs that use volunteers to provide family caregivers, older adults and adults with disabilities with nonmedical assistance to help maintain their independence. These volunteer-based models provide supports such as shopping, running errands, home maintenance and repair, and teaching the use of technology to help people connect with loved ones and much-needed medical care.

Unique to this grant cycle, Community Care Corps has funded seven of the 2023-2025 grantees to assist older adults and adults with disabilities with transportation to and from non-emergency medical appointments and outpatient procedures.

The Community Care Corps: Building Engagement and Independence in Communities Grantee Snapshots publication highlights the impact of the innovative work accomplished by the 2022-2023 cohort of Community Care Corps grantees. Each snapshot includes a program overview highlighting key efforts, partners and future directions. Learn more about their work and explore how your organization can implement similar innovative programs to help older adults, adults with disabilities and family caregivers maintain their independence, health and well-being.

• Community Ambassador Program Toolkit: A new toolkit from the Camden Coalition helps organizations build effective community liaison programs. The toolkit includes a step-by-step guide to developing and maintaining authentic and equitable partnerships with community members and advocates.
• Transportation Technical Assistance Brief: Check out the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center’s newest brief: Resources on Starting and Funding Volunteer Transportation. This list of resources on volunteer transportation can help local communities start, improve, or expand their volunteer transportation programs targeted to the needs of older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers.
